Rijkswaterstaat’s Executive Board is responsible for the functioning of the organisation as a whole, with the emphasis on strategic planning and decision-making.

  • 'Rijkswaterstaat has an important social function; together with our partners we promote safety, mobility and the quality of life in the Netherlands. I am proud to be able to lead an organisation with such a fine task.'

    Michèle BlomDirector-general of Rijkswaterstaat
  • 'In daily practice, close to citizens, our work towards a safe, accessible and sustainable Netherlands becomes concrete. The replacement and renovation task in particular will be an important task. This requires good cooperation with public and private partners. I would like to contribute to that, with my focus on the regional work of Rijkswaterstaat.'

Patricia ZorkoDeputy director general of Rijkswaterstaat
  • 'Every year, Rijkswaterstaat has a budget of almost 5 billion euros. I attach great importance to achieving the maximum possible return for society, while keeping our work affordable by using innovative, efficient methods and work processes. That is my challenge as chief financial officer.'

    José van AerleChief financial officer
  • 'Our road inspectors, traffic controllers, lock masters and water managers work 24 hours a day to make the Netherlands safe, liveable and accessible. Behind the scenes, they guarantee reliable water management and smooth, safe traffic flow on the road and on the water. They deal with accidents as quickly as possible and take action in the event of emergencies and crises.'

Erica SlumpChief engineer director Traffic and Water Management
  • 'As a manager of the roads and waterways, Rijkswaterstaat works on short and long term projects. We work on available networks and liveable environments, every day again. At the same time we prepare ourselves for changes in the field of mobility, climate and energy, together with its users and stakeholders in the region. That's what makes it so interesting.'

Bob DemoetChief engineer-director Programmes, Projects and Maintenance
  • 'Rijkswaterstaat Central Netherlands manages the largest buffer of fresh water in Europe and supplies fresh water to a third part of The Netherlands. Sustainable management with great concern for climate and ecology is of vital importance for our country.'
