Market consultation on electrically produced asphalt
The market consultation launched on 7 May 2026 forms part of the ‘Future-Proof Asphalt Chain’ initiative, which aims to develop asphalt produced using electricity rather than fossil fuels.
In December 2025, a group of public authorities presented the Future-Proof Asphalt Chain Approach. The approach focuses on four key ambitions: high-quality asphalt, clean production, circularity and climate-neutral processing.
The ultimate aim is to make the entire asphalt value chain more sustainable and reduce emissions generated during the production and application of asphalt. One important step in this transition is the move towards cleaner asphalt production methods, including the development of electrically produced asphalt.
Working with the market and public authorities
Rijkswaterstaat, together with the Province of Gelderland, the Municipality of Amsterdam and a broader alliance of public authorities, is exploring how electrically produced asphalt mixtures can be applied on a larger scale.
By working together, the participating authorities can combine their knowledge and experience while engaging directly with the market. Through this market consultation, they aim to explore what is needed to develop and introduce electric asphalt production, and how public authorities can help accelerate the use of electrically produced asphalt.
The consultation is open to both Dutch and international market parties, as well as other interested organisations, including:
- asphalt producers and contractors
- manufacturers of asphalt production installations
- energy suppliers
- other parties interested in contributing ideas on sustainable asphalt production

Interested parties can register until Wednesday, 20 May. The individual meetings will take place from 22 June 2026 onwards. Further information on registration will be shared at a later stage.
