Office for European programmes

At the heart of its policy and its application in the Netherlands is the European Union’s intricate legal and regulatory framework. Our mission is to stimulate, facilitate and manage cooperation with our European and other international partners in research and innovation projects. 

To this end, we maintain close links with key stakeholders in the research and innovation field on important issues such as climate adaptation, sustainability, network governance, asset management, corridor management and smart mobility.

Impact with EU programmes

Rijkswaterstaat’s international pursuits aim to add value to domestic projects while simultaneously advancing the EU’s broader objectives. Participating in EU programmes allows Rijkswaterstaat to work with European partners to develop the knowledge and innovations needed to achieve these goals.

European networks

Knowledge does not stop at borders. That is why the Office for European Programmes also actively participates in organisations and networks such as CEDR, FEHRL, ECTRI, ERTRAC, ERTICO, Polis and WssTP. Rijkswaterstaat also cooperates with other countries by sharing its knowledge and providing assistance where necessary.

We cooperate with other Dutch government agencies and knowledge and research institutes in European projects. Over the years, we have cultivated an extensive network of infrastructure authorities and environmental agencies in Europe, particularly with countries that share our European transport corridors and water systems.
