Doing business with Rijkswaterstaat

Rijkswaterstaat promotes safety, mobility and the quality of life in the Netherlands. The government does not ask us to perform that task alone, but to outsource some of our tasks to the private sector.

Every year Rijkswaterstaat places orders for projects and services worth around € 3 billion. That figure will only increase in the coming years. Commissioning of external contractors is therefore essential to enable us to carry out our public tasks.
Rijkswaterstaat will have to implement austerity measures in the coming years. The measures will make the organisation leaner and more effective as we continue to carry out the many projects in the pipeline. Rijkswaterstaat is therefore critically reviewing its range of tasks and intends to collaborate more frequently with other infrastructure managers. We are also carefully assessing which of our activities can be outsourced and will delegate a growing volume of work that market actors can perform just as well or even better than we can.

By acting consistently in accordance with the documented procedures, we hope to bring greater uniformity to our operations. Our methods will then be more recognisable and more predictable, one of the objectives pursued by Rijkswaterstaat as a professional commissioning agency.
