Guidelines concerning alkali-silica reaction
Guidelines concerning alkali silica reaction
During the past ten years the Netherlands has made considerable progress controlling alkali-silica reaction (ASR) related risks for structures.
A national guideline on the prevention of ASR (CUR recommendation 89) has been in use for a few years, taking control of risk of ASR on the one hand, while leaving industry sufficient freedom to make an optimal concrete mix on the other.
The effectiveness of maintenance measures has been evaluated based on a fully automated monitoring system applied to sixteen bridges. Recently a controlled load test method has been developed to determine the structural reliability for ASR affected bridges.
