01 Guidelines concerning alkali-silicareaction
Guidelines concerning alkali silica reaction
During the past ten years the Netherlands has made considerable progress controlling alkali-silicareaction (ASR) related risks for structures.
A national guideline on the prevention of ASR (CUR recommendation 89) has been in use for a few years, taking control of risk of ASR on the one hand, while leaving industry sufficient freedom to make an optimal concrete mix on the other.
This CUR-recommendation can be downloaded in English for free.
The effectiveness of maintenance measures has been evaluated based on a fully automated monitoring system applied to sixteen bridges. Recently a controlled load test method has been developed to determine the structural reliability for ASR affected bridges.
