xx North Sea: new shipping routes

North Sea: new shipping routes

Why

  • The North Sea is one of the busiest and most intensively used seas in the world
  • Currently there are no fixed routes in certain areas along the Dutch and Belgian coast
  • Therefore the Netherlands and Belgium have jointly adapted their shipping routes
  • These new routes will improve the flow of shipping, safety and will help ships with navigation

How

4 new shipping routes
20
buoys placed or moved

Do the works impede me?

Rijkswaterstaat will relocate the buoys on 30 and 31 May and 1 June 2017. During that time, maritime traffic may still sail through unmarked areas and/or routes. Various measures will be taken to guarantee safety during the transition period. Before and during relocation of the buoys, maritime traffic will be kept informed by means of live navigation messages and Notices to Mariners. During relocation of the buoys on 30 and 31 May, the old navigation routes will remain in force.
